dRofus was an crucial part of having a digital twin with all the functionality and data we were required to have. The most important part of dRofus for this project is the cross-discipline, coordination of both data and also being able to work in the same environment for all parties, both contractors and consultants, so we can collaborate and have the same data updates. And also have the responsibilities for different data on elements in, say, the consultant models. Previously, this was not possible for contractors to be part of having data into the consultant model.

In this project (Glasblokkene Trinn 2)  we worked with the documentation to get it delivered and controlled before work started on the site. It differs from a normal project where all the documentation is delivered after the building is finished and the quality of the documentation is not usually as good. In this project we have it delivered and controlled before we start building.

We were searching for tools that could help us specify our client requirements in building construction projects as a model that could be shared, and by using open exchange standards between ourselves, the design team, the constructors, and the FM managers. We had some prior but separate experience of the open IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) BIM standard and from using dRofus in traditional projects (without BIM) – and the combination of IFC support and the dRofus functionality made it quite clear that dRofus could provide us with a powerful tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
What benefits does dRofus offer specifically for engineers?

dRofus helps engineers save time and reduce cost by structuring engineering data centrally, improving collaboration across disciplines, and eliminating disconnected spreadsheets or silos. By working in a shared data platform, engineers can focus on engineering outcomes instead of manual data management.

How does dRofus support MEP systems and engineering data coordination?

dRofus makes it easier to manage MEP system relationships, link equipment to systems, and coordinate spaces against architectural room structures. This ensures engineering data stays consistent and accessible throughout design and delivery.

Can dRofus help me keep engineering data consistent across models and teams?

Yes. Engineers can update project data directly in the dRofus cloud database rather than separately in multiple models or spreadsheets. This centralization ensures that all project participants—designers, BIM managers, and contractors—are working with the same up-to-date engineering information.

How does dRofus improve collaboration with other stakeholders?

By being a shared platform with a single source of truth, dRofus ensures everyone involved in the project sees the same engineering, architectural, and planning data in real time. This reduces miscommunication and makes coordination between engineering and other disciplines more efficient.

What kinds of outputs and workflows can engineers access with dRofus?

Engineers can leverage structured data for schedules, BIM validation, and coordinated outputs. They also gain confidence that they are presenting consistent information at meetings and across tools, enabling better decision-making and fewer errors during downstream phases.
